The Beef Shorthorn breed have many female traits as the ideal suckler cow with her quiet nature hardiness and good milking ability. However, they have recently been winning plaudits for the taste of their beef. Neil of Upsall (P) recent has the highest EBV figures for Inter Muscular Fat (IMF) (+1.2) in the breed which determines the marbling factor which gives the tenderness and flavour.

The Beef Shorthorn Society reported that, interest in the breed continues to grow with 138 new members up 10% on last year and more than doubling in the last decade to an active membership of 1056. Registrations have also increased to 4239 in 2020 up 60% since 2010. These trends were mirrored in the 2020 BCMS calf registrations of Beef Shorthorn cross populations and have increased by a significant 222% . This is the fastest rate of any breed and over 6o% greater than the next highest both native or Continental. We are delighted that Morrisons are continuing to fuel demand for quality beef.
