Australian and Canadian Influences

The development of the Upsall shorthorn herd has seen a number of foreign influences such as breeding lines from Australia and Canada, this has been a key focus for Gerald, to continue to improve the breed traits and progress the stock.

Broughton Park Thunder (P)

A Curvebender EBV bull has produced exciting calves for Upsall and Glenisla. He is a trait leader for birth weight and with figures of +10.9 for calving ease, figures of -1.6 for gestation length, and eye muscle at +3.3.

We are delighted with the growth of the calves.

He was a Durham Contributor sire in 2008. He was the No. 1 in breed of the 2007 born bull calves for both domestic and export maternal indexes in the Summer and Autumn Group Breedplan analysis.

Ken Trengrove of Broughton Park says that a good number of breeders have used the bull through A.I. (artificial insemination) quoting “I have had nothing but positive feedback”.

Neilson Job of the Royalla Stud in NSW said that Broughton Park Thunder cattle are generally high performing cattle with frames to match.

When the Broughton Park Herd was sold to the Yamburgan Stud, Thunder honoured a previous agreement and was sold to Laird Morgan of Arubial where they were awaiting his calves when I made contact.  However Liz Manchee at Yamburgan said that Broughton Park Thunder daughters have grown into practical females with good udders.

Crooked Post Drover (P)

During  2020 breeding season,  we  have  been  using  two  sons  of  Crooked  Post Drover  one  of  which  is  a DNA  tested  homozygous  Polled bull.

When  we  have  assessed  the  calves  in 2021,  we  will  have  a  good  idea  on  their  future.  Both  bulls are  showing  great thickness growth  and  length, additionally their  half  sisters  are  proving to be consistently  good.

Mandalong Super Elephant (P)
